Retinal Detachment, Nerve Retina Layer separates from the Pigment Retina Layer

The nerve layer of the retina is adherent to the pigment layer behind or outside it, and the pigment layer in turn is connected to the choroid blood vessel membrane. When, as may sometimes happen, the nerve layer separates off from the pigment layer the result is retinal detachment. Next to natural senile atrophy of the retinae, detachment is probably the single most common condition affecting the back of the eye. Heredit¬ary Eye Disease Infantile Tumour, Retinoblastoma

Retinoblastoma is an infantile tumour on the retina of a hereditary type. The baby or infant develops a white pupil and sometimes a white fluid in the front part of the eye. If unchecked, the whitish mass behind the lens of the eye will continue to grow and could even kill the child. The eye must either be removed or treated with radiotherapy. To save the child’s life it is sometimes necessary to remove both eyes.
