Eyeglasses / Spectacle Wearers, Eye Make-up Tips
If you have poor vision this need not prevent you wearing eye make-up. Today there are glasses and aids to help you to do it with ease. Special, flip-down frames can enable you to see what you’re doing one eye at a time. But magnifying mirrors are widely available to help any woman, no matter what the degree of myopia (near-sightedness) or hypermetropia (far-sightedness).
Far-sighted
The women who is far-sighted will have lenses that magnify the eyes. Hence, she needs to take particular care in applying eye make-up so that it doesn’t look too exaggerated:
- Use neutral, natural tones. Bright, colourful shades will look brash and detract from the colour of your eyes.
- Use minimal eyeliner; on the outer third of the top and lower lid only. Avoid black altogether.
- Apply two thin coats of mascara rather than one thick one which could look clumpy.
- Keep any stray hairs under eyebrows trimmed, otherwise they will makeyour eyes look ‘dirty’.
Short-sighted
Short-sighted women often have to wear lenses that make their eyes appear smaller. If this is your problem, you can minimise the effect in the following ways:
- Use a kohl pencil to line the eyes, to create definition and depth. Do not line the eyes completely as it makes them appear smaller, exacerbating your problem. Line only the outer half of the upper lids, and the outer third of the lower lid, to widen and deepen the eyes.
- Strengthen the definition of your eyebrows. If they are very light, brush in with a soft neutral shadow – similar to your own brow colour. Finish by brushing brows upwards with a cleat mascara.
Colour Contact Lens
Contact lens wearers have a wide range of exciting choices with lenses that can enhance as well as transform their natural eye colour. The effects of coloured lenses can be subtle or striking but sometimes can look very bizarre and artificial.
Your eye colour is a key component of your seasonal colour analysis. If you change your natural brown eyes to blue you transform your whole look and the effects of your clothes and make-up. Should you plan a complete switch and expect to wear the new colour most of the time you’ll need to adjust or even change your Season.
When you select tinted contact lenses to enhance your natural eye colour you create a brighter or deeper effect. The Soft Autumn’s hazel eye, for example, when changed to emerald becomes more striking. Her Soft Autumn palette will now look bland and unexciting next to emerald. No doubt she’ll need to become a Bright Spring in order to balance her look.
So consider coloured contacts lenses very carefully. I’d recommend tints to brighten or enhance the natural colour of your eyes rather than change their colour completely. But the choice is yours. Just remember you may be jeopardising your entire wardrobe for a whimsical challenge to Mother Nature.
