Mirror Eye Exercises for better Vision

Look in a mirror. What do you see?

You see the outside of your eyes:

  • the front of your eyeballs and the cornea, which covers the round eyeballs like a dome
  • the white portion of the eyeballs
  • the pupils, two openings that appear as circular, black holes
  • the colored iris that gives the eyes their specific color
  • the eyebrows, eyelids, and the moisture in the eyes

You cannot see the internal structure of the eyes, the surrounding muscles, the optic nerve, and the visual center in your brain. Your sense of vision is like an iceberg in the ocean: you can only see about 1/7 of the total; 6/7 remains hidden under the surface of the ocean. In our case, 6/7 of the visual work is done behind the eyes, inside the head.

Eye Care BlogNow, take a closer look at the visible part and its activities:

The eyes are never still. They move constantly, now gently gliding, now jerking and jumping. They cannot stop, unless forced to remain rigidly focused.

Eyelids blink softly, like a feather or the wings of a butterfly. When they are tired, they feel as heavy as lead, or they jerk nervously. Blinking is completely involuntary unless you deliberately open your eyes wide or squint to narrow your focus.

As soon as the amount of light reflected in the mirror changes, the pupils change: they become bigger or smaller automatically. This happens quickly when you are alert and have plenty of light. The reaction is slower when the light is poor or when you are staring at something.

Pay attention to the condition of your eyes. Do they look lively or tired, dull or brilliant? Is your expression withdrawn or alert, receptive and focused on the environment or disinterested? Do both eyes look the same or do they appear to be different?

Now, become aware of the person that you are looking at, yourself. Are your eyes truly interested in what they are seeing? Dc you detect in the expression a focused interest, mental anticipation, or c you see disinterest?

Sadness, joy, pain, rage, love, and isolation are feelings that are like veils. Entire emotional worlds can be hidden behind them. Is the expression in both eyes equal or different?

Make eye contact with the mirror image of your own eyes. Look at them. Have a “meeting” with your eyes. As you do, you will see a change in the mirror. The eyes that look at you from the mirror react to what is taking place in your own eyes. The eyes will immediately communicate with the information they receive. Are you looking at your eyes critically or unhappily because they might not tell you what you want to know? If so, you are probably withdrawing even more from what you see.

Look at the image in the mirror openly, with curiosity and gentleness. Show understanding if your eyes are under stress. Absorb the feeling of weariness and be ready to do something positive for your eyes, such as a few relaxation exercises. You will notice how your eyes become softer and more open, almost showing anticipation. Look at your eyes with empathy, warmth, and understanding. Have a dialogue with your own eyes. You might realize how unique your eyes really are. Surprise yourself. Learn how much your eyes have to say to you. Don’t hesitate to try!

Think of eye training as a way to make your “seeing” more animated, using all aspects of your visual abilities. Look in a mirror often, at least once a day. (The best time is in the morning, while taking a bath.) Be open to what your eyes want to reveal to you from the surface and from what the total expression tells you. Become aware that your eyes are a living part of yourself, not just a high- performance organ used to see!

Normally, we use our eyes only to look out at the world. But with a mirror, you can also look into yourself and discover something totally new.
