Poster: “Letter Size” Exercise 1
- Cover your right eye with one hand. Don’t apply pressure. During the exercise, continue blinking the eye that is covered. Hold the page with the text vertically in front of you with the other hand.
- Focus with your left eye on a word in the first paragraph. Now, with or without glasses or contact lenses, move the text close to the eye until the word becomes blurred. Move the text away from your eye and then move it so close to your eye that the word disappears completely.
Continue with this in-and-out movement, which is like playing a trombone.
Next, cover the left eye. Continue the near and far positions of the text until the word you are focusing on totally disappears.
Go to the next paragraph and repeat the exercise with each eye.
Move on to the third and fourth paragraphs and repeat the exercise for each eye.
Recommended time: one to two minutes.
Exercise 2
Imagine that you have a paintbrush attached to the tip of your nose. Move the imaginary brush over the letters of the first line of the first paragraph. Imagine that the black letters are raised off the page and that you are using the brush to dust them.
- At the end of each line, move your imaginary brush between the lines to the beginning of the second line. Then move from left to right.
While the brush is moving back between the lines, become aware of the letters in the lines above and below, as if they were telephone poles flashing by the window of a moving car.
Work yourself through the next three paragraphs the same way. Do not try to recognize everything. On the contrary, it is helpful when the letters are not clear, even when they become blurry.

- Hold one finger midway between the tip of your nose and the picture. Look at the finger with both eyes, not at the picture. Do you see four images in the background, two blue and two red?
- If not, in quick succession close one eye and then the other while still looking at your finger. Do the two dots in the background jump to the left and then to the right?
As soon as you see the images jumping, look at your finger again with both eyes, and, with a bit of patience, you will be able to see the four images in the background.
Now, move your finger towards the tip of your nose until the double image of both dots in the background shifts and you can see three images.
- At the end of each line, move your imaginary brush between the lines to the beginning of the second Then move from left to right.
- While the brush is moving back between the lines become aware of the letters in the lines above and belt as if they were telephone poles flashing by the window a moving car.
- Work yourself through the next three paragraphs same way. Do not try to recognize everything. On 1 contrary, it is helpful when the letters are not clear, el when they become blurry.
