What is wrong with EYEGLASSES?
Admittedly, eyeglasses do have a few advantages over contacts. They’re easy to get used to and easy to care for, but if you’ve ever worn glasses, you’re all too familiar with these annoying disadvantages:
They May Not Be Flattering. Behind thick glasses, which correct large refractive errors, eyes look abnormally big or small. Glasses also tend to hide the natural beauty of the eyes, one of the most important and communicative features of the face. In spite of designer frames (which go out of style) most people look better without glasses.
They’re Heavy and Uncomfortable. The pressure of the frames resting on the bridge of the nose and behind the ear can create red marks, indentations, and discomfort.
They Slip. When you look down or engage in physical activity, glasses tend to slip down your nose. If the lenses are thick and relatively heavy, and/or the frame is the type that’s easily stretched out of shape, you can actually get a headache when the muscles behind the ears contract in an effort to halt the slippage.
They Get Wet, Scratched, and Smudged. Droplets of rain, perspiration, oily secretion from the fingers, and all kinds of “dirt” can collect on the lens surface, causing blurred vision. Plastic lenses are particularly prone to scratching.
They Fog Up. When you go from a cold environment to a warmer one—for example, from the outdoors on a cold day to the inside—glasses tend to steam up, obliterating your vision.
They’re Bulky. Carrying glasses around all day is a nuisance and inconvenience. It means bulging pockets instead of a neat, trim appearance; or extra-large handbags or shoulder bags to provide added space for glasses and their cases. Though contact lens wearers do need to bring along a carrying case and selection of solutions, these tiny items can’t compare with bulky eyeglasses, if one uses the specially designed travel-size versions.
They’re Easily Lost or Forgotten. Once they’re off your face, glasses are easily misplaced or simply “left behind” (consciously or subconsciously). .
Their Frames Can Break. How often have you (or someone you know) sat on a pair of glasses? Or lost the little screw that connects the sidepiece with the front?
No Side Vision. Your peripheral vision isn’t corrected since the size of the lens is limited. You must look through the center of the lens for the sharpest image. In addition the frame is always in the way and blocks part of your view. For clearest vision, when you want to look up, down, or to the side, you must move your whole head while keeping your eyes lookingstraight ahead.
The “Window Effect.” With eyeglasses you always feel as though you’re looking at things through a window, as if something separates you from the real world. A contributing factor may be the fact that spectacles, even though transparent, slightly reduce the amount of light reaching the eye, giving you a dimmer view of the world.
They Distort Objects. The thicker the lens, the more distortion there is in size and shape of objects, especially if you do not look through the direct center of a spectacle lens.
They Get in the Way. Try kissing, or lying on your side, or using a camera, while wearing glasses. Moreover, though it’s difficult to apply makeup while wearing glasses, it’s often impossible without them.
